The Sri Lankan Economy under the IMF-Supported Stabilisation Programme and Beyond by Prof. Premachandra Athukorala 12th July 2026
You will all remember Sri Lanka's economic crisis and bankruptcy in 2022, when the International Monetary Fund (IMF) supported the country's recovery alongside the Government's debt restructuring programme. Although significant progress has been made since then, public understanding of these measures remains limited, and political narratives have often overshadowed objective analysis. Many economists also caution that the real test still lies ahead, as external debt repayments resume in 2028 and sustained economic growth becomes essential to maintaining economic stability. This webinar, followed by an open discussion, was organised to help participants better understand these challenges in clear, balanced, and evidence-based terms.
